Deal of the year: Symantec decided to sell part of its business to DigiCert

We still recall what consequences Symantec was threatened by representatives of leading browsers due to the erroneous issuance of SSL certificates. There were different sanctions offered, as the industry did not want to leave Symantec actions without attention. According to Symantec statements in the blog, they determined to overcome any obstacles. However, recently Symantec decided to change their strategy. Symantec posted in their online blog that the company decided to sell part of its business associated with SSL certificates to DigiCert.

According to the article posted in Symantec blog, DigiCert spent on purchase of Symantec Website Security and related PKI solutions around $950 million. Symantec also received a 30% interest in DigiCert's capital share. The company has no plans to change its location - the headquarters of DigiCert will remain in Lehi (Utah).

According to Greg Clark's Symantec CEO statement, the transfer of Website Security and all related PKI solutions will help Symantec to be more focused on providing protection for cloud services with the Integrated Cyber Defense Platform. Not so long ago, the company acquired Fireglass and Skycure, which allowed it to accelerate the pace of innovation.

The Symantec’s board of directors unanimously approved the deal. It will be finally closed in the third quarter of 2018.

DigiCert will transfer all of existing Symantec customers to its own technological "rails".
